Applications now open for the inaugural cohort — deadline 31 July 2026
The University of Patras is calling applications for the first intake of the new inter-departmental MSc Agri-Food Biotechnology. Up to 30 places are available. Eligible candidates hold a first-cycle degree in agricultural, biological, chemical, veterinary, environmental or related sciences. Application is online, with selection by dossier and interview.

Self-assessment dossier submitted to HAHE for academic accreditation
The complete self-assessment dossier (D1–D11) for the new distance-learning MSc has been formally submitted to the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education for initial accreditation, in line with the ESG framework and the July 2025 HAHE standards.

In-person laboratory sessions: dates fixed for both semesters
The two three-day in-person laboratory blocks per semester have been scheduled at the Department of Sustainable Agriculture in Agrinio. Trimester 1 sessions are confirmed for late November and mid-January; Trimester 2 sessions for late March and mid-May.

Faculty research highlight: insect-gut microbiome & symbiont-mediated control
Recent work from Prof. Tsiamis and the Environmental Microbiology Lab on insect-gut bacteriome diversity and applied genomics has been featured in Frontiers in Microbiology. The work informs the curriculum of AFB_1.3C and AFB_2.1C.

Distance-learning system ready: Open eClass + Zoom infrastructure deployed
The Directorate of Digital Governance and ICT has provisioned the integrated distance-learning system for the MSc, with synchronous Zoom rooms, asynchronous Open eClass courses, and dedicated technical-support staff for both teachers and students.

English-language requirement clarified — B2 level (FCE / TOEFL / IELTS)
Applicants must evidence English proficiency at B2 level. Eligible certificates include FCE, TOEFL (≥500 paper / ≥300 computer), IELTS (≥6.5) and the Hellenic State Certificate of Language Attainment. Holders of English-medium degrees are exempt.

Save the date: inaugural welcome event for the first cohort — September 2026
An induction day combining the Quality Policy briefing, an introduction to the Coordinating Committee and Academic Adviser system, and an opening lecture by an invited speaker is being planned for the first week of September at the Agrinio campus.
